Webp is an Android sample including a small app to demo usage of webp in Native Activity
view:

  • rotate decoding 3 webp images and load them into on-screen buffer. Decoding is in its own thread

WebP is an image file format from Google that provides lossy compression (like JPEG) as well as transparency (like PNG) but can provide better compression than either JPEG or PNG. Lossy WebP images are supported in Android 4.0 (API level 14) and higher, and lossless and transparent WebP images are supported in Android 4.3 (API level 18) and higher. WebP images are designed to make the web faster, with smaller, richer photos for developers to use.

This sample uses the new Android Studio CMake plugin.

Pre-requisites

  • Android Studio 3.0.0+ and android-ndk-r16

Getting Started

  1. Download Android Studio from formal release or canary
  2. Launch Android Studio
  3. Select 'Import project (Eclipse ADT, Gradle,etc)'
  4. Browse into downloaded sample directory, select webp/build.gradle
  5. Click Tools/Android/Sync Project with Gradle Files.
  6. Click Run/Run 'app'.
